If you’re the winner, save a copy of these instructions. You’ll be the Fox next time and you can use
these as a springboard to develop your own instructions. Or not.
Fox will be transmitting on 146.565 MHz beginning at 0900. Kudos to Carl N4MNC for providing the
hardware!
The first transmission will be a voice transmission for 30 seconds at 50 watts to assure you can
get your first directional line.
Subsequent transmissions will be 30 seconds of tones and the KE4MH call sign, 120 seconds of
silence, 30 seconds of tones and the call sign, 120 seconds of silence…(repeat). Transmission
power will be about 8 watts.
The Fox operator will be monitoring the Viking repeater if you have issues. Call KE4MH.
Viking operates on 145.150 MHz (Output) / 144.550 MHz (Input) with 118.8 PL tone.
If you drop out for any reason, please notify the Fox via text or the Viking repeater. Give the same
information with which you checked in. We’ll conclude the hunt when we think everyone is done, but
we don’t want to conclude the hunt before 1200 if someone is still actively pursuing the Fox.
When you find the Fox, TEXT your name/callsign and secret code (on the Fox) to 828-424-9856. DO
NOT PROVIDE THE CODE TO ANYONE ELSE. Promptly leave the vicinity of the Fox, so you are not cluing
in other hunters. The timestamp of the text will determine your discovery time.
At 1200 (or earlier if all competitors have located the Fox), anyone interested can meet up at The
Wagon Wheel Restaurant on Rt. 213 where we can cheer the winner while the rest celebrate their
efforts and share what they did right or can do differently. Prizes will be awarded at that time:
o First Place: A $25 gift certificate to DX Engineering, and possession of the official HAMARS Fox
